The Coffey County Republican reported that the Coffey County jobless rate was at 6.8 percent in June.
The unemployment rate in the county remains below the state average. During the month of June, Coffey County had 355 people, or 6.8 percent of 5,239 civilian workforce, without jobs. That is up from 5.8 percent in May and 5.2 percent a year ago. The state average is 7.0 percent.
The newspaper also reported that Coffey County Commissioners approved a 2010 budget for publication that reflects a 5.857 increase in the mill levy rate.
The estimated tax rate for 2010 increased to 49.962 mills, which will raise just over $19 million through ad valorem taxes.
