Emporia State’s baseball team dropped to No. 2 in the South Central Regional rankings for the first time this season on Wednesday.
Cameron overtook the Hornets in the top spot after ESU dropped three of four last weekend at Missouri Southern.
Missouri Southern moved into the rankings with the series win, debuting at No. 7. Central Missouri and Nebraska-Omaha also moved up in this week’s poll. The Mules jumped up one spot to No. 4 and the Mavs went from No. 7 to No. 6.
Emporia State still has a chance at hosting the regional tournament even if the Hornets cannot move back up to first.
The top-ranked team in the region has the first choice at hosting the regional tournament, but Cameron’s home field does not have lights and therefore could not host. Cameron could still be the host and play elsewhere. If Cameron decided not to host, the No. 2 team would become the host school.
