Jonathan Roman and Chris Reimer took third place in No. 1 doubles for Emporia High at Tuesday’s Emporia Quad, posting the Spartans’ best showing of the event.
Roman and Reimer went 2-1 on the day and defeated Manhattan’s duo of Kenton Hallowell and Elliot Goe 8-3 in their final match of the quad.
In No. 1 singles, Saul Trujillo represented Emporia and finished in fifth place. Trujillo defeated McPherson’s Aden Lindholm in the fifth-place match by a score of 8-2.
Todd Koelsch took the court for the Spartans in No. 2 singles and went 0-3 to finish sixth, losing to Liberal’s Hai Vo in his final match of the day.
The No. 2 doubles team of Zach Windsor and Hayden Hanson also went 0-3 and finished sixth. They closed their day by taking on Manhattan’s Thomas Fullagar and Rich Potts-Moore, losing to Fullagar/Potts-Moore 8-2.
As a team, Emporia finished sixth out of six squads, collecting eight team points. Washburn Rural easily led the team standings with 28 points, and McPherson and Manhattan finished in a second-place tie with 14. Liberal and Wichita East finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Spartans will next be in action at the league meet on Monday, May 4, at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka.
