The annual Homes Tour to benefit Hand-in-Hand Hospice is this weekend and it’s not too late to get tickets.

The Homes tour features four local homes and will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at any of the homes the day of the tour. Tickets can be purchased at Plum Bazaar, Hand-in-Hand Hospice, Medicine Shoppes, Flinthills Mall and the Newman Regional Health gift shop.

This year’s homes are the Knapp home, 518 W. 12th Ave.; the Mais home, 2909 Lakeridge Road; the Critchley home, 1633 W. 20th Park Place; and the Perry home, 1262 Road 190. The Mais and Perry houses were previewed in Tuesday’s Gazette.

Below is a preview of the Critchley and Knapp homes.

Knapp home

The home of Clarine and James Knapp is the oldest home on the tour, built in the early 1900s. From the street, the home boasts curb appeal with large columns, a playhouse and a peaceful water feature at the side of the home.

The home has five bedrooms and one and a half baths. The Knapps are the fifth owners of the home.

On the ground floor of the home there are classic features such as wood floors and pocket doors. There’s a living room, a formal dining room, a kitchen and a sitting room located on the first floor.

Clarine Knapp enjoys decorating and her artistic style can be seen throughout the home. A large dominating centerpiece was taking shape Tuesday afternoon on the dining room table. In the kitchen, the countertops are made of black granite. When taking a tour of the home, be sure to look up in the kitchen above the chandelier. The Knapps had a map painted that is blended in with the paint and seemingly always was there.

The early 1900s charm continues into the bathroom on the second floor. There’s a claw foot bathtub. The bedrooms are on the second floor, along with a sitting room that can be seen from the street. The third level of the home has been converted into a playroom for the kids.

One of the features of the home that the family enjoys is the front porch.

“The front porch is wonderful,” Clarine Knapp said. “It’s another room in itself.”

Critchley home

The Critchley home was built in the 1980s and has been remodeled to modern standards and modern charm. The home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and boasts an eclectic mix of features and artistic touches.

On the ground floor, the house has a formal living room with a large dining room table and large formal display cabinets. The kitchen shines with black granite countertops and an abundance of windows, which overlook a large yard. There also is an eat-in area off the kitchen.

Three bedrooms are on the ground floor, including the master bedroom and bathroom, which have been updated as well. The master bedroom boasts rich colors and the master bathroom is another room in itself complete with a mini refrigerator, a jet tub and a soft chair for lounging. Kathleen Critchley said the features prevent her and her husband from having to leave the room after a long day.

The living room has an electric fireplace and artwork that was painted by Kathleen Critchley’s sister, Diane Baguhn, who lives in Arizona.

The basement has another bedroom, a family room, a wet bar and plenty of space. Critchley said the nice thing about the home is that the bedroom downstairs can be used for guests as well as a trundle bed that is located in an alcove in the basement of the home.

Critchley said that they fell in love with the home because of the outdoor space, despite the remodeling needed inside the home.

“We love this house,” she said. “The reason why we bought it was because of all the trees.”
