The annual Homes Tour to benefit Hand-in-Hand Hospice is this weekend and it’s not too late to get tickets.
The Homes tour features four local homes and will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at any of the homes the day of the tour. Tickets can be purchased at Plum Bazaar, Hand-in-Hand Hospice, Medicine Shoppes, Flinthills Mall and the Newman Regional Health gift shop.
This year’s homes are the Knapp home, 518 W. 12th Ave.; the Mais home, 2909 Lakeridge Road; the Critchley home, 1633 W. 20th Park Place; and the Perry home, 1262 Road 190.
Below is a preview of the first two homes. Check Wednesday’s Gazette for the last two homes.
Mais home
Tom and Pat Mais’ home is a ranch style house with Mediterranean flair. The home has three bedrooms on the ground floor level and two offices in the basement that could be used as bedrooms. The home has 3,300 square feet of living space and also has a hearth room, a formal dining room and a recreation room.
Pat Mais said the home is 15 years old and they have lived there for five years. They have done several upgrades to the home including painting all the white walls a warm color and they replaced the green roof.
The kitchen is upgraded as well. The countertops are made of quartz, the cabinets are oak and the back splash and floor is ceramic tile.
Off the kitchen is the hearth room.
“This is where we live,” Mais said.
Off the hearth room is a deck that overlooks the lake, where the Maises live when it’s warm. The ground level floor has three bedrooms, one master and two guest bedrooms. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. It also has a deck off back.
Tom Mais enjoys hunting, and game trophies hang and stand throughout the house. A large elk trophy hangs in the basement because the ceilings in the rest of the home aren’t tall enough to accommodate the elk’s large rack. In one of the guest rooms, a pillow and curtains are made of elk hide.
The home’s rec room has an antique snooker table, an old nickel slot machine, a piano and several antiques. The bird trophies also are located in the basement.
“We enjoy living here on the lake,” Mais said. “It’s a very livable house for two people.”
Perry home
The home of Stan and Amy Perry sits off Road 190 and down a long driveway. The Perrys have a view of nearby fields because they built their home in the middle of farm country.
The home was finished in 2007 and has 2,600 square feet on the main floor and 1,100 square feet upstairs. It has four bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.
Inside the front entry, guests immediately see a stairway leading to a catwalk on the upstairs level, a living room and a formal dining room. Peer a little farther back and the large open kitchen can be seen. The ground level of the home is an open floor plan. The dining room is separated by columns and a dark wood border on the hardwood floor.
“The columns are designed to make the dining room seem like a separate room,” said Stan Perry, adding that the floors are made of oak with cherry accents.
Near the kitchen is a powder room with a stainless steel raised bowl-style sink. The kitchen has dark-colored LG countertops that are easy to maintain and keep clean, Perry said. There is a large island in the middle of the kitchen with bar seats that allow people to sit and chat or eat in.
The home also has a screened-in porch and a mud room off the garage complete with a shower.
“It allows me to clean up before I come into the house,” Stan Perry said.
