Brown speaks tonight
Tickets still remain to hear Denise Brown, sister of Nicole Brown Simpson, speak in Emporia tonight. Simpson was murdered on June 12, 1994.
Denise Brown will speak at 7:30 p.m. today at the Granada Theater and 10 a.m. Tuesday at Emporia High School.
Tickets for tonight’s program cost $15 and are on sale at the Sweet Granada, 805 Commercial St., and the Granada Coffee Co., 809 Commercial St.
Emporia’s SOS is sponsoring the event, which is a part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Sandy Kramer, development director at SOS, said Brown is being brought to Emporia to heighten awareness of domestic violence.
Honored by institute
Larry Grimsley of Americus has been named a recipient of a Huck Boyd Leaders of the Year award for 2009 by the Huck Boyd Institute at Kansas State University. Grimsley is being honored for entrepreneurship.
In 1989, he and his family founded GS Inc. in Americus. The company specializes in producing high-powered heating elements used in manufacturing, petrochemical and automotive applications. GS products have been shipped to most U.S. states and overseas.
Today, the company’s products might be used for anything from firing Lenox china to heat-treating the space shuttle booster rockets.
