Zach Young’s 11th-place finish in his second tournament back from a wrist injury highlighted the Emporia High golf team’s trip to Salina Municipal Golf Course on Friday.
Young shot an 83 to lead the Spartans, who finished in ninth place out of 12 teams with a score of 378.
Coach Rick Eckert liked that Friday’s tourney was the third straight in which EHS lowered its score. In other Emporia results, Zach Hill shot a 96 to place 49th, Austin Knight shot a 99, Tyler Agler and Justin Wilson each shot a 100 and Garret Vickery registered a 121.
McPherson won the team competition with a score of 328, beating Topeka West by one stroke. Derby’s Shane Gilbert fired a 74 to win the event’s individual medal.
Emporia will return to action on Monday at the Topeka Country Club in the Topeka West Invitational.
