Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington City Council passed two ordinances that shorten the time residents must cut grass and weeds while requiring the property owner to pay a costly administrative fee related to the nuisance. Ordinance No. 782 allows a $150 administrative fee to be charged to the property owner after initial contact by the city. The ordinance also allows the city to charge $150 per hour to cut grass and weeds on property neglected by the owner.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that Charles Coker took the oath of office for Burlington City Council recently. Coker represents Ward 1 in the northern part of the city and won the seat when he received 24 write-in votes during the April 7 election.

Chase County

The Chase County Leader-News reported that Cottonwood Falls swore in a new mayor and a new council member following the election. Mayor Mike Swartz and Council Member Adam Turner were sworn in. In Strong City, Don Britain was sworn in for a seat on the city council. Mayor Mike Cahoone was sworn in as mayor.
