Church will honor the Moores

The Rev. Michael L. Moore and his wife, Iona V. Moore, will be honored Sunday on the 15th anniversary of their service as pastor and “First Lady” of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 730 Sylvan St. Officers and members of the church will have special celebrations at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The morning service will be Youth Appreciation. The Rev. Addison Canady, a student at Emporia State University, will deliver the message. Members of the church Youth Group will participate in the service and express their appreciation for the assistance, instruction and encouragement given them by the couple.

At the afternoon service, the Rev. W.L. Templeton, pastor of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Topeka, will deliver the sermon and the Mount Carmel choir will perform.

The Moores are active in the Emporia community, in the Smoky Hill District and in the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Kansas.

Michael Moore received his master’s degree in Christian education from Central Baptist Theological Seminary School. He received a doctor of divinity degree from Western Baptist Bible College in Topeka, where he serves as dean and is an instructor. He also holds offices in the Smoky Hill District and in the Kansas State Convention.

Iona Moore has an associate’s degree in counseling and a bachelor’s degree in Christian education, both from Western Baptist Bible College in Topeka. She will soon receive her master’s degree. She works in all areas but a lot of her focus is on the youth of the church. She has received special honors from the Smoky Hill District and the Kansas State Convention where she has held many offices. She is a para-professional at Emporia Middle School.
