Appraiser reappointed by County

Friday, April 24, 2009

Lyon County Appraiser Gary Post will serve another four years following a 2-1 vote by Lyon County Commissioners during Thursday morning’s Lyon County Commission action session.

Commissioners appointed Gary Post to a four-year term that will run from July 1 to June 13, 2013.

“I think with Gary’s years of experience in the office it will serve him well in the next four years,” Commission Vice-Chairman Rollie Martin said.

Commissioner Scott Briggs voted against the appointment. He said it was too early to make the decision, which should be postponed.

In other business:

• Commissioners approved office equipment purchases for up to $3,700 for Lyon County Assistant Counselor Michael Halleran.

• Commissioners authorized Briggs to sign a contract between the secretary of Health and Environment of Kansas and Lyon County. This is a contract with the agency and will bring in $9,072.

On the consent agenda passed by commissioners:

• Approved the low bid of Norfolk Iron and Metal for $89,390.60 for structural steel; the utility agreement with Cable One for the Highway 50 and Road F improvement; Ron Gibson’s application for an entrance on the north side of Road 130 between Road M and Road N; appointing a chair and members for the selection committee to review letters of interest received for the construction inspection for KDOT project and set a date for the committee to meet.

• Approved the expenditure of up to $1,800 for a surveillance camera and equipment from Fund 84; an expenditure for up to $3,500 to replace five ballistic vests; an expenditure of up to $1,100 for a pick-up bed cover; and discussed a possible purchase of a new animal control vehicle.

• Approved the renewal of consulting services with A&M Consulting.
