Auditioning for actors
Auditions will be held early next month for children and adults to participate in summer theater productions by the Community Theatre of Emporia.
The auditions will be from 6 to 9 p.m. May 1 and from 9 a.m. to noon May 2 at the Lee Beran Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave.
Plays that will be produced will be announced later, after organizers determine what scripts are best-suited to the actors.
Auditions are open to anyone who wants to participate.
Caregiver workshop
A free workshop for caregivers will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30 at the Lyon County Council on Aging, 430 Commercial St. The workshop is designed to help families who wish to help older relatives and friends continue to live in their own homes as long as possible. Those who wish to attend are to register by calling (800) 432-2703 by April 28. Lunch will be provided at no charge.
According to the news release, the workshop will feature speakers discussing the proper ways to assist loved one when moving about the home, legal issues such as living wills and durable powers of attorney, effective caregiving from a distance, understanding how depression affects seniors and how to help them and maintaining good health through good nutrition. Massage therapists also will be on hand to releive caregiver stress. The agency “has limited funding to pay for care for a loved one on the day of the workshop,” stated the news release. Those who wish to attend, but can’t afford to pay for respite care, are to call Karen Mayse at the above number.
