There, she and other K-State students worked with students from the University of Kentucky to assist urban youth at the James R. Jordan Boys and Girls Club. Essay, photo winner

Zac White, a sixth-grader at Lowther North Intermediate School, won first place in his grade category in The Sunflower State Games’ Healthy Kansas Essay and Photovoice Contest.

The contest was open to all students in first through sixth grade across the state.

Students were asked to submit a photograph of their favorite healthy meal and an essay describing why the photo depicts food that helps them live a healthy lifestyle, according to a news release from the Sunflower State.

Zac submitted a photo of himself picking out fresh parsley at a grocery store. The parsley would be used to prepare a lemon chicken penne pasta dish. His essay, “Eating Healthy Can Be Fun,” explained how working with his big sister allows them to spend time together when she returns home from college to visit.

Zac will receive a gold mdal, an official T-shirt, a Barnes & Noble gift certificate and a $50 savings bond.

The essay is posted online at www.sunflowergames.com.
