One high throw and a bobble was the difference in Game One on Friday at Turnbull.
In a pitcher’s duel between Emporia State’s Megan Dennis and Central Missouri’s Megan Leonard, Dennis’ Hornets made the lone mistake and the one error resulted in a Central Missouri 2-0 win.
The error, which came in the seventh inning, went to ESU third baseman Miranda Campbell. The bobble was by first baseman Jennifer Dace. Dace got her glove on Campbell’s high throw, but could not squeeze it for the out that would have been the final out of the seventh and kept the game tied 0-0.
“It was going to come down to who was going to make an error, 0-0 game, and unfortunately, it was us,” Dace said. “She has arm troubles and it just happened. Crappy timing.”
Dace wanted redemption and she got her shot in the first inning of Game Two. With two outs and Angela Mahan at second base, Dace hit a single to left to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead, which turned out to be all the Hornets needed in a 3-0 win.
