Seven Emporia Middle School students have qualified for state recognition through the Duke University Talent Identification Program and one of the seven also has qualified for national recognition.
Seventh grade students Maddie Bair, Megan Hilbish, Nollan Kirmer, Miranda Lane, James Olsson, Andy Renteria, and Jacob Wright will be among the students recognized at the State DUKE Ceremony June 1 at the University of Kansas, according to Connie Staley, enrichment services teacher at EMS.
Nollan Kirmer also has qualified to attend the Grand Ceremony May 18 at Duke University.
Also participating at the Duke TIP this year are EMS students Chantal Gomez, Taylor Smith and Seki Anderson.
Duke TIP recognizes academically talented seventh grade students who have earned scores equal to or better than half the college-bound seniors who took the SAT or ACT college entrance exams. Invitations to the State Ceremony and Grand Ceremony are based on the students’ scores on the exam.
