The Emporia High tennis team had its most successful meet of the season on Wednesday at the Seaman Invitational in Topeka, finishing second out of seven teams.
The Spartans’ No. 2 doubles team of Mark Kitchens and Saul Trujillo took first place at the event, going 3-0. Kitchens and Trujillo defeated Hayden’s team of Daniel Minton and Bruno Rocha 8-3 for the championship.
No. 1 singles player Chris Reimer and the No. 1 doubles team of Jonathan Roman and Zach Windsor both earned third place with 2-1 records. Reimer defeated Brandon Sheehy of Hayden 8-2 in his third-place match. Roman and Windsor scored an 8-1 third-place match victory over Kyle Covert and Ross Armstead of Shawnee Heights.
The Spartans’ No. 2 singles player, Jimmy Mongkhonvilay, took fourth place. Mongkhonvilay went 1-2 and lost to Hayden’s Paul Flynn 8-4 in the third-place match.
EHS finished with 22 team points, one behind Hayden. Shawnee Heights was third with 21.
