Medications donation
The Flint Hills Community Health Center is one of 36 clinics and centers in Kansas that will benefit this year from the donation of an estimated $250,000 in unused medications by a mail service pharmacy company.
The medications are provided by Prescription Solutions, a pharmacy benefit management company.
Under the state’s Utilization of Unused Medications Act, which went into effect in January, adult-care homes, mail-service pharmacies and medical-care facilities may donate unused medications to federally qualified health centers such as the health center in Emporia and to safety net clinics in the state.
The company made its first donation of about $70,000 worth of medications on Wednesday. The drugs were given to The Kansas Department of Health and Environment, which will distribute them.
Safe routes
Logan Avenue Elementary School will start a Safe Routes to School program on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Flint Hills Community Health Center. The program will emphasize safety in walking and bicycling to and from school.
The city’s Multi-Use Path Planning Board has issued an advisory statement for drivers to be more alert to the students’ presence. Drivers are asked to be aware of pedestrians and bicyclists, obey stop signs, slow down for walkers and not use cell phones while driving.
“Walking school buses” will be organized for specific days.
