On Wednesday afternoon, the first regional rankings came out and had Emporia State’s baseball team sitting in the top spot.
Later in the day, the Hornets proved that’s right where they belong. Emporia State swept Pittsburg State 12-2 and 3-1, extending their winning streak to 11 games and keeping them on top of the MIAA standings.
The Hornets racked up 21 hits, seven extra-base hits and five home runs in the doubleheader sweep, and they continued to get quality starting pitching.
Ben Graham and Ryan Anthony got rare midweek starts because Emporia State is off this weekend, and the team’s top two starters made the most of their opportunities.
