Q Ninth Avenue between Market and Union streets is made of old red brick that has been sinking and is very rough. What does the city plan to do with it? I’d like to see it restored with brick and a better foundation instead of having it covered with blacktop.
A “The City has no plans at this time to repair this stretch of Ninth,” said City Manager Matt Zimmerman.
Zimmerman said that the city has tried to maintain historic streets such as the one in question by replacing them with brick. However, the cost of brick is about 50 percent higher than resurfacing with asphalt.
“The city rates streets each year and ranks them by the most-needed based on location, traffic and affordability,” he said. “This section of Ninth may get added to the five-year Capital Improvement Plan in the future.”
