A goal by Jordan Sosa early in the second half was the only score the Emporia High soccer team could manage on Tuesday at Manhattan, and the Spartans suffered their third straight loss by a 2-1 score.
Sosa’s goal over the hands of the Manhattan goalkeeper came off an assist from Samantha Hernandez at the 51:05 mark and gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead. But the Indians answered quickly, with a goal in the 55th minute and another in the 57th minute,
“We played better in the first half,” EHS coach John Decker said. “Manhattan just played with much more intensity than we did.”
Emporia managed just three shots and one shot on goal for the game.
“We are struggling to play with intensity for an entire game, and we cannot afford to have the lapses in concentration like we have (had),” Decker said. “Manhattan kept us on our heels, and we played timidly most of the game.”
The Spartans travel to Junction City for their next match on Friday.
