WITH LAY-OFFS on the rise and a sagging economy, more people are turning to stealing to help supplement their income.
It has been reported that thieves are stealing peoples’ personal information in hopes of opening lines of credit.
Shredding and properly disposing of personal information is a good way to avoid becoming a victim.
This Saturday, ESB Financial is offering the community a rare opportunity. ESB is bringing to town a Shred-It mobile shredding truck and is inviting people to bring all their outdated papers containing personal information and have them destroyed for free.
If you have boxes of financial records, old checkbook registers or outdated medical information just sitting around the house, now is the time to safely discard them.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at ESB Financial at Eighth Avenue and Merchant Street. For information, call ESB at 342-3454.
Even though Emporia is a safe community, it’s important to realize that theft of your personal information can happen here, and we need to take the necessary precautions against it. Come Saturday and bring items to be destroyed safely.
