Plant sale

The Emporia Gardeners of America will have its 53rd annual Plant Sale from 7:30 a.m to 2 p.m. April 25 at the Anderson Building on the Lyon County fairgrounds. There will be a variety of ornamental perennials, annual flowers and bedding plants, hanging baskets, house plants, water plants and a selection of the most popular varieties of tomato and pepper plants.

A special bonus feature this year will be assistance from area Master Gardeners with the selection and planting of containers for the yard and garden. Bring planters; potting soil will be available.

The sale proceeds will be used for a variety of community projects.

The women of Cottonwood Friends Church will sell homemade goodies during the sale.

Operas at ESU

The ESU Opera Theater and ESU Orchestra will present an evening of two one-act operas this Friday at Beach Music Hall on the Emporia State University campus.

The performance, beginning at 7:30 p.m., will feature the operas “Dido and Aeneas,” by Henry Purcell and “Signor Deluso,” by Thomas Passatieri.

Derived from Homer’s “Iliad,” “Dido and Aeneas” concerns the tragic love story between Aeneas and the Carthaginian queen Dido. “Signor Deluso” is a comedy whose moral is, “Don’t believe everything you see.”
