St. Patrick’s Committee distributes largesse

The Learning Center Pre-School and the Young Thespian Players received checks last week from fundraisers held by the 2009 St. Patrick’s Committee.
The committee on Wednesday gave $4,000 each to the pre-school and the young actors.
Money for the pre-school will be added to the center’s playground fund. The center is a mission of the First Christian Church of Emporia.
The $4,000 for the Young Thespians will be used to offset the cost of the troupe’s upcoming performances.
This was the 14th year that the St. Patrick’s Committee has raised funds through a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, sales of T-shirts and holiday memorabilia, and ticket sales for prize drawings.
Over the years, the St. Patrick’s Committee has raised and donated more than $100,000 for charities that are selected annually to receive fundraising proceeds.
Members of the committee are Darryl Polzin, Steve Sutton, Barb Ternes, Phil Costello, Tina Andrews, Ron Gilligan, Beverly Durham, Sue Bahm, Joanne Berger, Gary Burgess, Gerald Kehres, Kelley Lapping, Paul Lapping, Tanya Larson, David McDonald, Ginger Steiner, Trey Sommers and Kayla Oney. Steve Corbin and Michael Turnbull are honorary members.
