Lyon County Commission

The Lyon County Commission will meet for a study session at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Lyon County Commission chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse, 430 Commercial St. Items on the agenda include:

• Robert Sullivan, Community Corrections, will discuss replacing old uniform shirts and increasing the number from two per staff member to four and will discuss contracting with Becky Morton to develop and access program.

• Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer, will review the contract for engineering services with BG Consultants for replacing at bridge on Road 310 west of Road H and will discuss purchasing approximately 750 feet of used 18 inch steel casing at $22 a foot and 60 feet of 16 inch casing at $14.50 a foot for an estimated total of $17,590 from Justin Sage in Madison.

• Vicky Lyons, victim witness coordinator will discuss proclaiming April 26 to May 2 National Crime Victims’ Week in Lyon County.

• Richard Old, Lyon County undersheriff, will discuss an expenditure of $2,000 from fund 84 for tuition, training and travel expenses for a detective to attend CSI training.

• Samuel Seeley, Lyon County Zoning, will discuss NSP combined administration and inspection agreement.

Emporia City Commission

The Emporia City Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the city commission/municipal court room, 518 Mechanic St. Items on the agenda include:

• Ceremony for police officer Ed Owens, who will be promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant.

• Presentation of NRAB Care Awards.

• Accept donation from ESB FInancial for improvements to the Fremont Park Bandstand.

• Accept donation for the playground at Peter Pan Park.

• Award bid for purchase of track loader.

• Award bid for crack seal and slurry seal program.

• Approve proposal for the 400 server.

• Approve contract with the City of Hartford to provide water.

• Board appointments and re-appointments to the Human Relations Commission.

• Proclamation honoring the Emporia High School wrestling team as State Champions.

• Proclamation supporting Child Abuse Prevention & Awareness and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

• Proclamation naming April 27 - May 1 as National Crime Victims Rights Week.

• Proclamation declaring April 22 as Earth Day in Emporia.

A business meeting will follow the commission’s regular meeting, during which commissioners will:

• Administer the Oath of Office.

• Elect the mayor and vice-mayor.

• Appoint members to JEDAC Committee and the Recreation Commission.

• Designate The Emporia Gazette as the official newspaper.

• Approve surety bonds for city manager, city clerk and city treasurer.

• Designate the city’s financial institutions.
