Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at JavaCat-5, 610 Merchant St. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

The Reading Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Reading Community Building.

Tuesday

P.E.O. Chapter HY meets at 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Janet Challender serving as hostess, assisted by Diane Gladow. The program, “Easy Listening with Martin and Melinda,” will be given by Martin Cuellar and Melinda Grove, ESU faculty.

The Flint Hills Regional Quilt Guild meets at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month at Presby West Campus, 1702 W. 15th Ave. Members will hear about an upcoming quilt luncheon, auction and show.

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6 p.m. at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. The program is scheduled at 7. For information, contact club secretary Virginia Higgins at higginskiwanis@cableone.net or 340-2466.

The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.

The Noon Lions Club meets at noon in the Skyline Room of the ESU Memorial Union.

The Senior Singles group for 50+ singles desiring Christian fellowship meets at noon at the Regency Gardens in the Best Western Hospitality House. Attendees order from the menu and there is usually a program.

The Emporia Gardeners of America Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The speaker will Rodney Sobieski, who will talk about “Organic Foods: Always Better?” Members will make plans for the annual plant sale to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 in the Anderson Building on the Lyon County fairgrounds.

The Emporia Camera Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St.

Miriam Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. Elton Jensen will present the program.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets at 6 p.m. the home of Dorine Harter for orientation. Members will sell pecans on April 18 at the TB Clinic in the Flinthills Malls.

Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meets at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

P.E.O. Chapter DI meets at 7 p.m. with Jennifer Bennett, assisted by Shawna Moyer, for a wine and cheese tasting social meeting.

Friday

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at noon at the Granada Theatre, with Joyce French and Mary Wempe serving as hostesses. The group will bring sack lunches. The program will be “Exploring the Granada.”

Saturday

The Emporia Airpport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport.

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Co., 809 Commercial St. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

P.E.O. Chapter ES meets at 1:30 p.m. with Patty Converse, assisted by Arlene Taylor. All project and program reports will be presented.

Sunday

The Flint Hills Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers meets from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Emporia Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Music is provided for dancing. Admission is by donation. Visitors are welcome.

April 20
