Kid’s College at Flint Hills Tech

Flint Hills Technical College will be offering the third annual Kid’s College July 6 – 10 and July 13 – 17. Kid’s College is a week-long, half-day activity designed just for children that have completed 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of careers with lots of fun, hands-on activities!

Each week-long, half-day session includes five different classes. Children can choose to attend either week and attend in the morning or the afternoon. Morning sessions run from 9 a.m. – noon and afternoon sessions run from 1 – 4 p.m. Each session is limited to 20 children and costs $75 per student. Classes include:

July 6 The Make It Real Game© July 13 Kansas Kids @ GEAR UP staff will lead you through The Make It Real Game©. Essential skills will be developed and fostered, such as teamwork, decision-making, and the ability to make connections between school and future life-work roles.

July 7 Get Fit!

July 14 Spend the day at Emporia Fitness, working with fitness experts! Learn about what it takes to become a personal trainer, the importance of fitness and different types of exercises you can do at home! You’ll also get to work out on some of the equipment!

July 8 Power up!

July 15 Become an “electrical engineer” for a day! Power a light bulb with lemon juice, learn about electricity and spend time in the Industrial Engineering Technology laboratory with instructor, David Budke.

July 9 I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

July 16 Make home-made ice cream in the FHTC Culinary Arts kitchen. Learn to make ice cream from scratch with Hospitality/Culinary Arts instructor Cheryl Gibson. After all of your hard work, you’ll get to enjoy your ice cream, along with some other sweat treats!

July 10 Go Green

July 17 Make a solar cooker that you can take home and use! While working with Bill Hanlon, FHTC Sustainable Living Center Director, you will also get to work in the FHTC Community Garden and Greenhouse and learn how to create your own garden at home. Learn about the importance of recycling and how you can start recycling at home.
