LCAT presents emergency plan

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

When it comes to an emergency evacuation, those with special needs require extra help and LCAT is prepared.

Ken Barrows, manager of LCAT, Emporia’s public transportation, told the Local Emergency Planning Committee on Tuesday afternoon that a special needs committee worked to put a plan in place to address the needs of those who can’t evacuate themselves during an emergency. Barrows said the group has been working on the plan for the past several months with local care homes in the area.

“In case of an emergency we have a contact list, but what we’ve done and got together with a special committee if we had to do an evacuation with whatever disaster would happen,” Barrows said. “At least that way emergency management would have a list of who’s in walkers, who’s bedridden...”

Barrows said the plan is in place and now it’s just putting it together when and if a disaster happens.

“At least we know where everybody lives, where everybody is at and who has priority when everybody is evacuated,” he said.

Awesome! I'm so glad someone took the initiative to think ahead for those people with limited mobility. I bet Rick Frevert is totally thrilled, too. What a wonderful testiment to humanity when you hear of others thinking ahead for the needs of others. Jesus would be proud.
