Unexpectedly getting two home games to start the year worked out well for the Chase County baseball team, as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from Mission Valley on Friday.
The games were moved from Mission Valley to Chase County because of storm damage to Mission Valley’s field. In Game One, Chase County rolled to a 13-5 victory. Greg Davis went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Bulldogs and also got the win on the mound, despite giving up five runs in four innings. Tanner Line went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Brandon Line was strong in relief of Davis, not allowing a run and striking out six in three innings.
In Game Two, a four-run sixth inning for the Bulldogs put away a 7-1 victory. Shawn Talkington was dominant over five innings on the mound, giving up just one hit and two walks while striking out 13. Dylan Kelsheimer and Davis both notched two-run singles in the sixth to turn a 3-1 Chase County lead into a six-run lead. Tanner Line had an RBI single in the third, and Talkington had an RBI triple.
The Bulldogs travel to Council Grove on Tuesday.
