It’s springtime! Time to dust off the cob webs…clean those closets…and throw away things you no longer need.
ESB Financial, The Emporia Gazette, KVOE AM 1400, Mix 104.9, Country 101.7 and the City of Emporia Recycling are joining together to sponsor a FREE Community-Wide Shred and Recycle Day on Saturday, April 18, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in the parking lots of ESB Financial, 801 Merchant Street. You can drive through both parking lots and dispose your items. Volunteers from ESB Financial and the Natural Resources Advisory Board of Lyon and Chase Counties will be on site to help you.
There will be a self-contained Shred-It mobile shredding truck in ESB Financial’s north parking lot that will destroy your confidential documents on site, free of charge to you.
The City of Emporia, along with volunteers from the Natural Resources Advisory Board of Lyon and Chase Counties will have a recycle trailer in the south parking lot of ESB Financial for you to bring your recycle items, also free of charge to you.
Q Why should I want to shred anything?
A To protect yourself from identity theft…the fastest growing form of consumer fraud. Surprisingly, research shows that most identity thieves obtain personal information through traditional paper-based sources. This way you can protect your identity for FREE!
Shred-it mobile shredding trucks containing cutting-edge technology can efficiently destroy all your personal, confidential paper documents. Shred-it document destruction services provide the safest and most efficient way of thwarting identity thieves.
Q Who is this event for?
A All individual households in our community.
Q What can I shred?
A Tim Wright of Pool & Wright Chartered recommends that individual households keep their tax returns forever. To be safe keep all tax preparation and personal documents for 7 years. So after 7 years, individual households can shred personal documents, expired credit cards, expired drivers license and insurance cards, out-dated medical information, utility and credit card statements, and out-dated bank statements.
Q What can I bring to recycle?
A The City of Emporia and the Natural Resources Advisory Board of Lyon and Chase Counties recommends that you pre-sort magazines, newspapers, aluminum cans, cardboard, #1 clear plastic and #2 colored plastic, glass, junk mail and other paper, and cell phones.
Q Why are you having this event?
A This is the first Saturday after tax day, April 15, and the first Saturday prior to Earth Day, April 22. The partners are sponsoring this event to help our community combat identity theft, recognize Earth Day and thank you for saving our planet for future generations.
ESB Financial will be handling out information to increase your knowledge of identity theft and the Natural Resources Advisory Board of Lyon and Chase Counties will be giving you information about how you can save money and recycle.
