Still critical
Ryan D. Gleue, 20, remains in critical condition in Stormont-Vail Regional Health, a hospital spokesperson reported this morning.
Gleue was injured Friday after he allegedly fled on a motorcycle from an Emporia Police officer who had attempted to pull him over. The chase — which went out West 12th Avenue, south on Prairie, then east on West Eighth Avenue — ended when Gleue failed to negotiate a turn and struck the side of a parked pickup truck.
Emergency personnel extricated Gleue and his motorcycle from under the pickup. He was not wearing a helmet.
Wreck in Madison
Paul Henry Meyer, 22, was taken to Newman Regional Health and transferred to a Wichita hospital after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck at an intersection at Madison.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol spokesperson, the truck was eastbound on Lincoln Street in Madison and did not yield the right-of-way to Meyer, who was southbound on Highway K-58.
The driver of the truck, Patricia A. Wine, 57, of Madison, and a passenger in her vehicle, Samuel W. Wine, 57, of Madison, were not injured. Both were wearing safety restraints.
Meyer was not wearing a helmet.

Why is it that whenever a motorcycle is involved in an accident the media has to report if the rider had a helmet on? Were the accidents caused by not wearing the helmet? The last time I checked we didn't have a helmet law for adults in Kansas. Maybe this will be the next crusade for those who want to push their beliefs on the rest of us.

I was getting to post the exact same thing toofast. So diddo on your comment. Not wearing a helmit did NOT cause the accident and also why do they always have to say whether not the people had on seatbelts? The elite have been trying to get that one past for quite awhile. I think they are just arciving all the news releases that say "rider not wearing helmet" for when they are ready to pounse. Join A.B.A.T.E. atleast for that right to chose.

You know, both of you should really just be wishing these people a speedy recovery, not nitpicking the article. One of the first questions asked when one is in an accident is "were they wearing safety belts?" " were they drinking?" "were they wearing a helmet?". Come on people, does Mrs. Walters really haunt your dreams that badly?
Godspeed and a speedy recovery to those involved.

goodoleboy,
Yes, people like you and Mrs. Walters haunt my dreams. I fear that some day those of you who think that they can protect me from myself, and others, will win your crusade. We are all going to die someday but I would like to make my own choices until then.
p.s. Why wouldn't you ask "What could have been done to prevent this accident?" instead of your questions?

Thanks for being the morality police. God speed in your recovery of your accident Mr.Paul Henery Meyer. I hope the person in the truck that struck you (in the legal action of following the law) is ticketed well. As for Mr. Gleue a speedy recoery s oyou can pay your fines and or do your time so I don't have to pay them for you. That better there goodoleboy???

Just bad taste to hijack a thread about people that nearly died and still could, if being a moral person and respecting people seriously injured groups me in with Mrs. Walters then you are deluded. I cannot stand her either but she has obviously gotten to the both of you. You can write an editorial to gazette and crow on endlessly about your helmet crusade and that is acceptable. There is a place and time for things and this thread is not the place.
PS Isn't be more careful the generic answer to your query?

Didn't accuse you of being moral just thinking you are more so than we. You chastizing me and being condensending isn't going to change how I feel about the first situation. It could have totally been prevented by using ones brain... So may as well quit wasting your time. I have plenty. Atleast until I am bored with you that is. Plus, after alot of your posts on other threads?! Your opinion doesn't mean alot to me. Calling names and belittling people like you do when you don't agree with them.
The second was a true accident on the riders part and I feel for him deeply. I hope he recovers completely and quickly.

So I can't even point out the fact that this is not the time and place to rant about something unrelated? Wow, so sorry to offend you. And to be fair I do not go after anyone that has not gone after me. I never take these boards for anything more than what they are, mindless debates that are not personal. But if this was someone that either of us knew I think you would not be defending your actions one bit. This is not a matter of if you like me or if I like you, its about discretion and respect, so just drop it already.

Copied from the story last line even."Meyer was not wearing a helmet."
I think I was talking about the subject. I was talking about something that was brought up in the subject. Yes, daddy I will drop it now. See there ya go again belittling someone who thinks differently than you. I am done though you are to easy. You can go back to the other threads and call smokers some more names. hugs and kisses

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol spokesperson, the truck was eastbound on Lincoln Street in Madison and did not yield the right-of-way to Meyer.
It is my understanding of the law that if "the truck" fails to yield the right of way and hit a jogger or another car and killed the person, they would be charged with Vehicular homicide, but since they (the truck) hit a motorcycle, they will only be charged with something like careless driving. Does anyone know if this is true and if so why? I had heard that somewhere before and thought it strange, but was told it was true.
Any answers anyone?
I hope all those involved have a speedy recovery.
goodolboy, pick your battles
you say"Just bad taste to hijack a thread about people that nearly died and still could"
and yet you felt the need to tell others how to act and react to the article before you ever said a word relating to the article?
weltha, i also noticed, the article said the driver of the truck was wearing a seatbelt, thats all good I suppose, but it sure didnt make them better behind the wheel did it?

That was the point that was trying to made. Part of it anyway. LOL I too have heard that before. (about whether you hit a jogger/biker/car etc... I'm not sure where to find if its true or not. Someone posted a websight with "unspoken laws" on another thread I wonder if one could find something there. I guess a lawyer would probably be able to tell you also.
