ESU freshman kicker Matt Perry was named the MIAA special teams player of the week on Monday.
Perry tied a school record by making four field goals in Emporia State’s 19-18 loss to Missouri Southern on Saturday at Welch Stadium.
Perry made kicks from 36, 29 and 39 yards in the first quarter to give the Hornets a 9-0 lead. His last field goal came from 19 yards out in the fourth quarter.
His 39-yard field goal was the longest by a Hornet kicker since 2006 when Jeff Edwards made a 45-yard field goal.
Perry has made six field goals in the two games, equaling the Hornets’ field goal total over the previous 18 games.
