Admire festival set for Oct. 11

Saturday, September 27, 2008

Admire will be bursting with activity on Oct. 11 with their Fall Festival and open house at the town’s new fire station.

The festival will offer activities for all ages on Oct. 11 and will be held in downtown Admire. Kids activities and games will start at noon. A silent auction will open at noon as well. At 2 p.m., Family Martial Arts will give a Tae Kwan Do demonstration. A horseshoe tournament will begin at 2 p.m. The cost to enter the tournament is $10 a person to form a two-man team. There will be an Admire’s Got Talent talent show that runs from 3 to 5 p.m. There is no fee to enter the talent show. Live music will begin at 6 p.m. featuring the Black Tuxedos and A to O. Fall festival T-shirts will be available for $10.

Brandy McGuire, secretary and public relations for Admire Community Pride, said there is no charge for vendors but vendors need to sign up in advance by calling McGuire at (620) 528-3259.

The fire station in Admire will have festivities as well during the festival. An open house will start at 10 a.m. and a barbecue will be held at 11 a.m. for a free-will donation.

“We’re just going to have barbecue, a couple of hogs and we’ve invited a bunch of our neighboring fire departments,” said Richard Gould, Admire fire chief and mayor. “We just want to show off our station.”
