Pick good cabinet

Friday, September 26, 2008

I VISIT EMPORIA due to having relatives in the area. William Allen White’s word and viewpoints literally put Kansas on the map AND gave KANSANS a voice in our representative democracy which is also a constitutional republic.

This year’s crop of presidential and vice presidential candidates are the most dismal in my lifetime.

None of them address issues vital to all Americans, such as paying down our national debt.

A politician with a microphone is usually without pen and paper. The executive branch of government works best when knowledgeable brains formulate sound policy decisions that are approved or vetoed by means of pen and paper.

In my estimation we need less rosy oratory and no more flaming rhetoric.

The nation needs a President and Vice President who can consult and cooperate with the Congress and harmonize on an even keel constitutionally with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ever since the time of JFK, the press has glamorized the perks of the Presidency — the State dinners, the use of Air Force One, the presidential jet, and “Marine One,” the presidential helicopters, the retreats to Camp David and the usual pomp and circumstance.

Our nation is in an economic mess.

Our border with Mexico is still un-sealed.

And our national debt keeps climbing.

I’m resigned to the fact that Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain aren’t thinking about real solutions. I can only hope (whoever is elected) will pick good cabinet members to brainstorm for solutions.
