The Emporia High boys finished 11th and the EHS girls finished 18th at the Missouri Southern Cross Country Stampede on Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
The Spartan boys were led by sophomores Tyler Tilton and Jack Heim, who finished 41st and 45th respectively. Tavo Dikin finished 47th in a field of over 500 runners.
The girls improved four places from 2007. Jenna Stanbrough finished 58th and was followed by three EHS freshmen. Abigail Chiroy finished 95th, Abby Davies 100th and Whitney Bauck 126th in a field of 400 runners.
“It was our best effort of the year on both the boys and girls sides,” EHS coach Mark Stanbrough said. “The field was very large with 49 girls teams and 50 boys teams competing and very competitive. We stepped up to the challenge and competed in our best races of the year.”
