Q I pulled into a gas station that had a reasonable price posted on its sign, but when I put in my credit card, the per-gallon cost on the pump jumped up 6 cents. Is that legal?
A “No. They cannot, what we call ‘upcharge,’ at a facility,” said Lewis Hutfels, a technical specialist with the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s weights and measures division.
“So the price on the billboard, they have to distinguish it by saying ‘cash or credit card’ and then the pump has to reflect the highest price,” he said.
If the per-gallon price for cash payment is lower than the credit card per-gallon price, that discount for cash should be given at the cash register instead of at the pump.
“What we don’t want to see is a reversal,” Hutfels said. “...We will get on it right away and go and visit him and explain. If he’s actually doing that, he’s doing it wrong.”

The Short Stop station across from Bluestem was doing that about a week ago. I'm glad I noticed it at $10 and not a whole tank. I stopped and went to Casey's. It may not be a big deal with one tank but they add up. Plus, its the principal of the deal.

Very fast response on the story. I called the Gazette on Friday to get the word out that S&S across from Bluestem frauded many people for the last several weeks. My dad caught it right before he started fueling, went in and told them off. He said they just stood there like he was a fool. I know I got jacked and so did another friend of mine.
Most people dont realize that Short Stop sold it to these new guys who are reaping the benefits. I know that several people will NOT be giving them business anymore.

Many people who started using public transportation to save money are still using it. I guess they just got used to it. I know it would be tough for me to go from taking the bus back to sitting in traffic and spending hours looking for parking. Americans are driving less and less, even with the lower prices, so the transportation commission is considering a hike in gas taxes. The money from gas taxes is needed to fund road construction and repair, and the current amount being collected from gas taxes is apparently not enough.
