The Emporia State men’s cross country team finished sixth in the college division and the women 14th at the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday.
Skyler Delmott led the men with a 13th place finish. Marcus Summers and Asher Delmott ran together, finishing 57th and 58th. The ESU men finished ahead of Division I teams Kansas State, South Dakota and Creighton in the 21-team field.
“The men ran very solid and beat some good programs,” coach Dave Harris said. “Skyler ran well in leading us. Many of the men ran personal bests over the 8K distance.”
Freshman Katie Mona continued to lead the ESU women, finishing 50th. Morgan Frehe was the only other lady Hornet to finish in the top 100 with an 80th place finish.
“On the women’s side we got stuck back in the large field of runners and spent most of the race trying to get up in the race,” Harris said. “We have to gain confidence on the 6K distance because that is what we will run at the championship races.”
The Hornets have two weeks off until their next meet at home on October 3 at the ESU Jock’s Nitch Invitational at Jones Park.
