AT THE GAZETTE, we are used to navigating through controversies. Right now, most of the controversies receiving press are the smoking ban and where Lowe’s should locate.
But there is another controversy receiving some discussion among train buffs, and it started with a letter to the editor that ran in the Gazette on Sept. 2.
The letter was from Jack Traylor of Dayton, Tenn. In it he encouraged Emporians to support the efforts to restore passenger train service to Emporia. What was controversial was his first sentence: “I was the last person to get on or off a passenger train in Emporia.”
