ESU moves to 12-1 with win over Griffons

The Emporia State volleyball team moved to 12-1 on the season with a three-set sweep of Missouri Western on Friday in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Hornets took down the Griffons 25-19, 25-11, 25-12. Brittney Miller and Hannah Carter led the way in kills, with each recording nine on .500 hitting. Emporia State had 11 blocks and allowed just one, with Katelyn Kaiser recording a match-high five block assists. Megan Koster added four block assists, and Ting Liu logged two solo and two assists. Liu also recorded 33 assists and two aces.
Arica Shepard had seven kills and 11 digs. As a team, the Hornets put up a .341 hitting percentage.
Megan Voelz led the Griffons with seven kills.
The 12-1 start is the best for the Hornets since the 2005 season, which they opened with a 13-0 record. They’ll travel to Maryville, Mo., on Sunday to take on Northwest Missouri State at 3 p.m.
