The Department of Homeland Security has chosen the Emporia Police Department as host for a regional training in “Creating Vigilant, Prepared and Resilient Communities,” according to a news release from EPD.
The two-day course will be open to the first 60 applicants from the community. Participants will learn “the same type of problem-based learning skills taught to public safety officials,” the news release said.
“Through team development, participants will learn how to identify problems and work in a multi-disciplinary approach to address problems in their neighborhood and community” to help them be better prepared in case of an emergency or a disaster.
“Solutions are best developed ata the local level by those directly involved,” said Police Chief Gary Smith. “I would strongly encourage those who can attend to do so.”
Training will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17 in the Little Theatre in White Auditorium. Neighborhood and business groups are encouraged to register as a group.
To obtain registration materials, contact Robin Gunkle at EPD, 518 Mechanic St., call 343-4211 or e-mail rgunkle@emporia-kansas.gov.
Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 10.

The correct spelling of title should be "training"

And they were chosen, not "choosen". I'm available, Gazette, if you need an editor with a degree in English and a background in professional writing. You really should have at least one on staff.

Hehe, for once I agree totally with BJ, this is not the kind of ineptitude we need to be conveying on the newspaper that represents our city. Please do proof your articles or give your webmaster a firm talking to.

Be careful about throwing stones, goodoleboy. After BJ, you need a semi-colon or a period to separate the two independent clauses.
I'd work on this too: "...this is not the kind of ineptitude we need to be conveying on the newspaper that represents our city."
Now I shall take the heat for surely the stones will come my way for being a language elitist.

Funny part is, everybody read the article and knew what it said, regardless of the spelling!

If and when I ever post an editorial I will ensure proper punctuation and grammar, else its a message forum and as long as the message is not butchered into pieces then who cares, its informal and is what it is.
