Friday, September 19, 2008
Two Emporia teachers were named semi-finalists in the 2009 Kansas Teacher of the Year Program.
Glenda Priest, a mathematics teacher at Emporia High School, and Lori Linville, a fifth-grade teacher at Lowther South Intermediate School, were recognized at the Region I KTOY Banquet on Saturday in Salina.
The Kansas Teacher of the Year Program is sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education. The program recognizes excellent teachers who serve as leaders in the profession across the state.
Three elementary and three secondary semi-finalists are selected from each of the four Congressional Districts. All nominees become part of a network of educators, who work together to improve their skills and advocate for public education in Kansas.
Priest, also the 2008 Emporia Master Teacher, has taught high school math in Emporia since 1999. Linville has been a classroom teacher since 1994 at Lowther South.
Each district may nominate one elementary and one secondary teacher. Nominees are fulltime classroom teachers who have completed at least five years in the classroom.
The state award will be announced in November in Wichita.
