Twenty Emporia fifth and sixth grade students will serve as ambassadors for the William Allen White Children’s Book Award celebration October 4 in Emporia.
The Lowther Ambassador Program was created in 2006 to increase local interest and participation in the statewide White Award ceremony. The ambassadors will assist the event planning committee during the morning activities at Emporia State University and lead the parade from ESU to White Auditorium. More than 500 students from Kansas schools are expected to attend the celebration and awards ceremony.
The students were selected as ambassadors based on an application and short essay. Students chosen as ambassadors were:
Fifth graders: Odalis Hernandez, Daley Keister, Tanya Rhoads, Bailey Estes, Alison Alingh, Anthony Young, Logan Williams, Emma Williams, Kylee Giffin, Audrey Leihsing, Danya Brewer, Tyson Crisp, Yulisa Enriquez and Alexis Simons.
Sixth graders: Courtney Leek, Sasha Conrade, Unique Jackson, Lexie Davis, Sierra Carr and Jessi Loucks.
The Ambassador Program was coordinated by Jennifer Black, Lowther librarian, and Donna Young and Jennifer Durham, Lowther library clerks.
