City commissioners approved a request for a text change of zoning regulations to allow a residential apartment on the ground floor in a C-4, central business district, by approval of a conditional use permit. The change would allow construction of a proposed mixed-use building at Eighth Avenue and Commercial Street.
In other business, commissioners:
- Approved a proclamation declaring Sept. 28 as “Church World Hunger/Crop Walk Day.”
- Authorized Mayor Bobbie Agler to sign a proclamation declaring Oct. 5-11 as “Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Week.”
- Authorized a proclamation declaring the month of September as “Emergency Preparedness Month” to encourage “all Americans to better prepare their homes and communities for emergencies.”
- Approved a contract with APAC-Shears for repairs at 18th Avenue and Industrial Road.
- Awarded a bid for utility relocations at the 18th Avenue bridge over the Turnpike to Shown-Carter Construction in the amount of $73,179.
- Awarded bids to Agler Gaeddert & for audit services for $25,000 with a possibility of two one-year extensions.
- Adopted a new organizational chart for the city as part of the wage and classification study.
- Approved an ordinance authorizing condemnation of property for the 12th Avenue and Graphic Arts Road project.
- Approved the recommendation of the planning commission to grant a request of S&S Oil and Propane for a minor plat of S&S addition.
- Adopted an ordinance to issue the city of Emporia series 2008 general obligation bonds in the amount of $5,500,000.
