Bureau backs Barnett
The political action committee of the Kansas Farm Bureau has endorsed State Sen. Jim Barnett of Emporia for re-election in November.
The endorsement was announced Monday by the PAC, Voters Organized to Elect Farm Bureau Friends.
Barnett is a candidate in the 17th District, which includes Lyon, Chase and Morris counties and parts of Coffey, Greenwood, Marion and Osage counties.
Farm Bureau President Steve Baccus said farmers need advocates in Topeka.
“Jim Barnett has a proven track record of leadership and consensus-building,” he said.
Pink Sunday
The Health and Wellness Ministry of Grace United Methodist Church, in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, plans a “Pink Sunday” at the church Oct. 5 to battle breast cancer. Those attending church that day are encouraged to wear pink — the color of support for the battle against breast cancer.
The 10 a.m. worship service will offer healing prayers for those in need and those who care for them. At 11:15 a.m., there will be a reception and a program designed to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention and treatment. Door prizes will be given away at the end of the program.
For the special Sunday, the church plans to reach out to rural churches and members of the African American community, inviting them to attend and participate.
