Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Alpha Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa meets at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Virginia Boettcher and Louise Hinrichs are the hostesses.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Tuesday

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Etude Club meets for brunch at 11 a.m. with Jan Smoots, assisted by members of the Social Committee. The program is “Welcome Back! Bring a Guest!”

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in September at Gambino’s Pizza, 1003 Industrial Rd. Information: Rufus Hobbs, (620) 392-5780.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6 p.m. at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.

The Noon Lions Club meets at noon in the Skyline Room of the ESU Memorial Union.

The Senior Singles Group for 50+ singles desiring Christian fellowship meets every third Wednesday at noon in the Regency Room of the Best Western Hospitality House. The group orders from the menu and there is usually a program. Information: 342-6186.

The Emporia Camera Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St. The program, “Poland and Slovakia,” will be given by Jim and Susie Aber. The “tech tip” will be Historic Buildings and Capturing Images/Animals. Hostesses will be Karen Whittlesey and Ranae Wyatt.

Miriam Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets at 6 p.m. in the Regency Room of the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50.

Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meet at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Friday

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 1:15 p.m. with Susan Cockrell, assisted by Jana Knudsen and Carol Reneau. The program, “P.E.O. Spice Sisters,” will be given by Milli Dick, Jana Knudsen and Marianna Gibbens.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the Granada Coffee Company. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Sunday

The Flint Hills Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers meets from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Emporia Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Music is provided for dancing. Admission is by donation. Visitors are welcome.

The Emporia Gardeners of America Club meets at 4 p.m. Sunday for a family picnic at Camp Alexander. The meal will begin at 5 p.m. Those attending are to call Velma Walker at 342-4091 by Wednesday so she will know how much food to order and to make reservations. Participants are to bring salads, vegetables or desserts for the potluck and personal tableware (dishes, glasses, eating utensils and serving spoons).

Sept. 22

The Flint Hills China Painters meet at 9 a.m. at the Best Western. Visitors are welcome. Information: Audrey Lawson, 342-8008.

Is the Senior Fair on Sept 23? I haven't noticed anything about it.

The Senior fair is October 29th at the Harvest House of Flint Hills Christian Church.
