Olpe Wins another rout

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Playing in the rain and mud kept scores relatively low on Friday, but it didn’t seem to bother Olpe and its rushing attack.

The Eagles ran for 222 yards to beat Osage City 54-6. In two games, Olpe has outscored its opponents 109-20.

Lebo relied mostly on its running backs in the sloppy conditions.

“With the kind of weather we had, Matt Redeker carried the ball a few more times than he would. He benefited from that and he did a good job.” Olpe coach Chris Schmitdt said.

The lone bright spot on the night for Osage City was a 73-yard touchdown run by Jordan Tice.

Lebo 14, Marais des Cygnes Valley 6

The outcome of Friday’s soaked game ended up in close victory for Lebo (1-1), with a win over Marais des Cygnes Valley (1-1).

After a week-one loss, the Wolves rebounded with a balanced offensive and defensive attack. Adam Laflin led the Wolves with 63 rushing yards and 25 yards receiving.

Marais des Cygnes took early in the first quarter but could not get anything going on offense after that. The consistent rain throughout the night contributed to the slow game.

“It’s a mudbath like every other game tonight. There were a lot of fumbles... but I’m happy we came out (with the win),” Lebo coach Butch Jones said.

Northern Heights 23, Herington 6

After a week one blowout at the hands of Olpe, Northern Heights needed to get its confidence back.

It took the offense a quarter to get going, but the Wildcats returned to their 2007 form with a 23-6 victory over Herington.

With the win, the Wildcats are off to a good start in defending their Flint Hills league title. Northern Heights quarterback Kenneth Bronson hit five different receivers for 123 yards and four touchdowns.

“We played a lot better and executed well,” co-head coach Greg French said. “We got a win in there so that was good for us.”
