Emporia State's Shelley Marsh (12) battles for possession with Southwest Baptist's Terri Beddows (4) during ESU's 3-0 loss Thursday, Sept. 11.
Lauren Cathey made the mistake of running down a loose ball on the sideline Wednesday against Southwest Baptist. Cathey saved the ball from going out of bounds and then slipped to the ground in the muddy mess of a field.
When Cathey tried to get up, SW Baptist’s Terri Beddows shoved her to the ground. Beddows was given a yellow card, and Cathey kept hustling.
The Hornets lost another game Wednesday afternoon — 3-0 to SW Baptist, their third straight loss — but the fact that they lost isn’t that important — at least, not yet. Emporia State has lost a lot of soccer games. Last year, ESU didn’t win a game. This year the Hornets magically won their first two. Then on Sunday the Hornets lost 2-1 in overtime after going up 1-0. Then they lost again 2-1 on Tuesday, again losing after leading 1-0.
