Rainout Rummage
The First Christian Church, 202 E. 12th Ave., will have its Rainout Rummage Sale from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will be used for church projects.
Penny Lunch on Saturday
The monthly Penny Lunch will be from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday downstairs at the Melvern United Methodist Church. An elevator is available by entering the front door of the church or call down the stairs for help if needed. Foods include a variety of sandwiches and salads, deviled eggs, homemade pies and ice cream. Donations will be used to support the church projects.
Rummage sale
The First Congregational Church will have their annual Rummage Sale from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 19 and from 7 to 11 a.m. Sept. 20 in the basement of the church. Proceeds are used for church projects.
Mexican Supper time
The Sacred Heart School annual Mexican Supper will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Parish Hall. The menu feaures two tacos, rice, chips and cheese and dessert. Tickets are $7 at the door; $6 if purchased earlier. Carry-out is available. Information: 343-7394.
All Veterans Tribute golf tournament
The Emporia Area Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to announce the third annual All Veterans Tribute Golf Tournament, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sept 20 at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. The cost to enter the tournament is $50 each person. Registration forms can be obtained at the Trusler Business Center in the Convention and Visitors Bureau office, at the golf course, the Emporia Country Club, Par for the Course and local grocery stores. A copy of team registration forms can also be obtained by calling the CVB office at 342-1803 .
The golf tournament was founded three years ago to honor all veterans and to celebrate Emporia as the official founding city of Veterans Day. Tournament proceeds benefit the All Veterans Tribute to continue the Emporia tradition of honoring all veterans for all military service to the United States of America.
Clustering sunflowers
The Sunflower Cluster annual meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20, with registration at 9 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. The cost of $7 includes lunch. The program will be given by Jan Laurent. This event “is the one time of the year to join our sister churches in fun and fellowship,” said the news release. The tangible offering will be to SHILOH, who need canned goods and non-perishable items, such as pasta, tissues, paper for copy work, toilet tissue, paper towels, office supplies, writing paper and cleaning supplies.
