The Emporia State volleyball team opened the St. Edwards tournament in Austin, Tex. with a pair of victories on Friday.
The Hornets opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville, winning 25-16, 25-12 and 25-22. The Hornets finished Friday with another sweep over Southern Arkansas, winning 25-23, 25-16 and 25-23.
Junior Arica Shepard had her first double-double of the season in game one and repeated the performance in game two. She had 22 kills and 25 digs on the day. Brittney Miller had 10 kills and two blocks in the first game and Hannah Carter had eight kills and a .571 hitting percentage.
Ting Liu had four kills to go along with 38 assists.
Liu continued to play well in game two, recording 31 assists and five blocks. Amy Byfield and Megan Koster both had nine digs.
The Hornets improved to 5-1 and play today at 10 a.m. against East Central.
