Leads foundation
A graduate of Emporia State University has been named president and chief executive officer of the Kansas Health Foundation, according to anews release from the foundation.
Steve Coen also holds a degree in law from Washburn University. He has worked at the foundation for more than 20 years. previously, he worked as state director and legislative assistant for then-Sen. Robert Dole.
In the news release, Coen said he looks forward to his new job.
“I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Kansas,” he said.
The Kansas Health Foundation, based in Wichita, is a private philanthropy dedicated to improving the health of all Kansans. Each year, the foundation allocates about $26 million in support of public health, policy, leadership and children’s health.
New owners
The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau will have a ribbon cutting at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at Sommers Auto Sales, 1931 W. Sixth Ave. The event is in recognition of the new owners, Kevin and Sonja Bonebrake, who bought the used-car lot from Sonja Bonebrake’s father and brother, Richard and Brian Sommers.
Light refreshments will be served.
In the top 20
Julie Pettijohn of Olpe, a representative of The Pampered Chef, received the company’s award for top performance in personal sales recently at the national conference in Chicago. The award was given to the company’s top 20 sales people in the United States.
The Pampered Chef sells kitchen tools and home-entertaining pieces.
Christian yoga
Jennifer Benjamin, a graduate of Emporia High School and Emporia State University, has completed her training to become a registered Holy Yoga instructor.
This practice links the mental and physical discipline of yoga with Christian spirituality.
Benjamin has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from ESU. She is involved in many community organizations and is the board president for Shiloh Home for Women.
