Burlingame benefits from Lebo fumbles

Saturday, September 6, 2008

The Emporia Gazette

Lebo’s Adam Laflin had a career game on Friday night, but the senior’s efforts were ruined by the luck of the fumble in a 40-32 loss to Burlingame.

Burlingame was on the right end of the fumble battle. Lebo put the ball on the ground four times and Burlingame recovered all four. Burlingame fumbled three times and didn’t lose one.

Laflin ran for 221 yards and five touchdowns in the loss and James Clem led Burlingame with 180 yards and three touchdowns. The Lebo defense put a lot of pressure on Burlingame quarterback Austin Masters, but the Burlingame ball security was the difference.

“We had a lot of sacks,” Lebo coach Butch Jones said. “But we just didn’t get it done in the end.”

Hartford 60, Flinthills 38

Hartford’s Adam Ewy ran for 171 yards, caught five passes for 76 yards and had seven touchdowns to lead Hartford past Flinthills.

“Very impressed with our offense,” Hartford coach David Wasylk said. “We didn’t put 60 up last year. Not even close.”

Ewy benefited from great line play, Wasylk said, as Hartford finished with 463 total yards thanks to a balanced attack. Hartford started the game with a passing emphasis and then went to the run. The plan obviously worked.
