ESU prof Felix to give concert

Bass-baritone Stanford Felix, an Emporia State professor, will give a free concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Topeka.
Sponsored by the Topeka Opera Society and Concert Association, the concert will be in Marvin Auditorium at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Felix, a seasoned vocalist and performer, will perform arias by Handel, Mozart, Massenet, Floyd, Tchaikovsky and others, as well as selections from musical theatre. The program is open to the general public and a brief reception will follow the recital.
With credits ranging from the American Chamber Opera to L’Opera Francais de New York, Felix is also the founder and director of Kansas Concert Opera. His extensive repertoire includes such bass-baritone roles as Sir John Falstaff in Verdi’s Falstaff, Mephistopheles in Gounod’s Faust, Figaro in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and the Rev. John Hale in Ward’s The Crucible.
Originally from South Dakota, Felix based his career in New York City for 14 years, working there with a wide array of conductors. He received his doctorate of music arts in vocal performance from the University of Kansas and is currently assistant professor of voice at Emporia State University.
Angel Yang, a piano performance graduate student at Emporia will be accompanist for the recital. Yang is herself an award-winning piano soloist, both here in Kansas and in her native China.
